Park Han-chul, former head of the Constitutional Court, invited by Incheon National University's law department to present overcoming the crisis of liberal democracy under the restoration of the spirit of the Constitution

Students from Incheon National University's law department who dream of becoming legal professionals and Park Han-cheol, former president of the Constitutional Court, met through a special lecture program, followed by fierce discussion and sympathy on the spirit and value of the Constitution. Looking back at the full text of the Constitution, an in-depth exploration of the meaning of the Constitution took place.

A special lecture by Park Han-chul, former president of the Constitutional Court, was held at the seminar room of Incheon National University's faculty hall at 3 p.m. on September 26 (Thursday), with more than 110 students and faculty members attending.

In a congratulatory speech, Noh Young-don, the vice president of the International Cooperation Department at Incheon National University, said, "I would like to thank Park Han-chul, the former head of the Constitutional Court, who visited to encourage and teach students in the Department of Law." "I hope that it will be an opportunity to freely discuss and think about the significance of the existence and values of the Constitution, the realization of the rule of law, and the fate of the jurist amid today's social change and development," he said.

On this day, Park Han-chul, former head of the Constitutional Court, preached on the history of the democratic constitution, the spirit of the times, the basic principles of the constitution, and the crisis and future of liberal democracy under the theme of "Liberal democracy and the Grey Rhino Crisis." He then urged "to compare the threat that is highly likely and influential but is ignored to the 'Grey Rhino' and to practice the spirit of the Constitution along with the diagnosis of the crisis on the reality of liberal democracy that is facing the crisis today."   

In particular, he pointed out, "Grey rhinos are scattered everywhere with class polarization, parliamentary hegemonic behavior, political populist competition, and ideological confrontation across society," and added, "To overcome this, the restoration of the values of human dignity and common prosperity projected in the full text of the constitution is an urgent priority, and the constitution should be actively interpreted as a framework for value integration and direction."

"The establishment of representative democracy by parliament and government agencies that respect the people's will and national interests, judicial institutions that control the selfishness and runaway of political power, and the role of the media to check sound criticism and power will overcome the crisis of liberal democracy and brighten the future," he said.

In the course of the two-hour program, Incheon National University's law students continued to listen to and ask heated questions about the role of the Constitutional Court, the concerns of the Constitutional Court, and the mission of the law enforcement personnel of the times.

Lee Choong-hoon, head of the law department at Incheon National University, who organized the special lecture program, said, "It was a valuable time to awaken the value and meaning of the constitution," adding, "The intersection of warmth and intelligence of Park Han-chul, former head of the Constitutional Court with a high legal background, and law students who dream of becoming preliminary legal professionals further revealed the purpose of the major career lecture."
